"I have a coeliac child who needs a gluten-free diet - I know how important it is to keep her free from gluten. Use our clothes and kit to alert others to your child's needs, avoid cross-contamination and learn how to manage day-to-day ..."

Visit the Message Board to meet other people in the same situation, and to ask specific questions ... I visit every day - see you there!

Newly diagnosed? You'll need the GF 'bible' from Coeliac UK - it's a list of foods you can eat.

Gluten-Free - books to help you

flour free baking gluten wheat and dairy free cooking celiac (coeliac) children gluten free bread and cakes

We can recommend all these books shown on the left, as we've bought these ourselves.

We have found Antoinette Savill's books The Gluten, Wheat and Dairy Free Cookbook, and Allergy-Free Cooking for Kids to have interesting recipes that work well. The Wellfoods flour that Antoinette Savill uses is excellent, and behaves very like ordinary flour. It's available mail-order but I recommend phoning an order. For other flours, see the prescription list.

The book by Donna Karan (Kids with Celiac Disease) is useful - American-oriented, because that's where she lives, but still has a lot to say for parents of newly diagnosed children.

Gluten-free Bread & Cakes has recipes for many different kinds of bread that can be made without gluten.

You may find it easy enough to modify your existing recipes to versions suitable for your special diet. The major manufacturers of gluten-free foods have recipes using their own flours on their websites, and several produce recipe books available for free.

Coeliac UK produce a recipe book which is a compilation of recipes that their members have developed over the years. And the Message Board also contains a collection of recipes on the Supp Board (click on a link at the top of the page) which have been created or found by members.

Please be aware that we use 'coeliac' or 'celiac' across the site, as they are different spellings for the same condition. We are aware that there are other conditions for which a gluten-free diet is prescribed, including dermatitis herpetiformis, and, increasingly, autism.
