A recommendation for gluten-free egg-free brownies

Sadly, this is a recommendation for US readers only, but if you’re visiting, it might be worth checking them out.

There is a lovely story on Parenting a child with a food allergy. This blog is written by parents with children who have multiple allergies – including one with an egg allergy, who is therefore unable to eat the usual variety of brownies. But they have discovered a company called Cherrybrook Kitchen, who produce cake mixes that are peanut-free, dairy-free, egg-free, nut-free and – crucially from my point of view – gluten-free.

A short quote:

“The look on my daughter’s face almost brought tears to my eyes when she said, “I get to eat brownies now too, just like you guys.” She spends so much of her life hearing, “No, I’m sorry honey, it has (insert allergy here), we’ll get you something else.” I feel happy to say, “Yes, of course you can have a brownie!” “

Brought tears to my eyes too. How wonderful.

Lucy is the mother of a coeliac, and has been managing a gluten free diet for her daughter for 20 years - though, to be fair, she does do most of it herself now...
