Early Day Motion – prescriptions again

You may be aware that some Primary Care Trusts here in the UK are trying to save money by cutting back on prescriptions of gluten free food to coeliacs. I have blogged about this before …

Gordon Banks MP has tabled an Early Day Motion (No. 276: Prescriptions for people with coeliac disease) in the House of Commons, in the hope that his fellow MPs will sign it to show their concern about this cutback. So far there are 86 109 signatures. It is likely, though, that this will only be discussed in the House if over half the MPs sign it – so there is some way to go yet.

Have a look at the list, and if your MP hasn’t signed the EDM yet, write to them to ask them to do so. MPs really do take notice of letters, and you can use the example letter provided by Coeliac UK to get started.

I’ve written a book summarising what we’ve learnt over 20 years of dealing with the gluten free diet, and it might be just what you’re looking for. It packs the lessons we’ve learned into what I hope is a helpful and straightforward guidebook. It’s available on Amazon, as a paperback or for your Kindle…

    Hi Steve

Without knowing your personal circumstances, it’s difficult to say, but if you do have to pay prescription charges, I’d strongly recommend going for the pre-pay prescription option. Have a look at my page on prescriptions and my post on free/cheap prescriptions for more information. For more advice, you could try asking the doctor’s surgery or pharmacist about this, or, if you didn’t want to talk to them, you could ask for advice from the Citizen’s Advice Bureau
